While some are happy to take a relaxing holiday on a paradisiac beach, others love looking for spooky destinations and frightening themselves to death.
If you are a scary-trip adventurer, you will find here some of the world’s scariest destinations.
1 – Hill of Crosses, Lithuania
Crosses started being placed in this hill in northern Lithuania in the 14th century, conveying the desire for independence. Then, it evolved to remember dead rebels. During the Soviet occupation from 1944 to 1991, the hill became a place of rebelliousness and thus, the crosses were demolished several times by Soviets but locals kept rebuilding it. There are nowadays more than 100,000 crosses gathered in the hill, conflicting together in the wind like spooky bells.

2 – Island of the Dolls, Mexico
Classified as an Unesco World Heritage Site, Xochimilco is known as “Isla de las Munecas”, or “Island of the Dolls”. This small island is famous for the hundreds of hanging dolls on trees and spread on the ground.
While it looks more like a horror movie scene, the island used to be the residence of Julian Santa Barrera. After he found a dead girl’s body in a close-by canal, he gathered and exhibited the dolls hoping to block evil spirits. Brave visitors can hire a boat, convince the driver to guide them, and admire this spectacle safely from the water.

3 – Veijo Rönkkönen Sculpture Garden, Finland
During his lifetime, Veijo Rönkkönen was a very famous contemporary folk artist in Finland. Nonetheless, he was also an outsider, refusing to exhibit his pieces in public areas, so he created an unsettling collection of 500 concrete statues in his backyard, of which 200 are performing several yoga poses.
